If you’re from anywhere in the Midwest, chances are you’ve heard the term “Yooper”. If you haven’t, you’re missing out, because it’s used to describe a native of the Upper Peninsula of Michigan. Yoopers aren’t just known for their good looks and friendly personalities, but to be avid hunters and fisherman. So here at the Freshwater Tavern, we couldn’t miss a chance to create a dish that embodies just that.

Our “Yooper Fish & Chips”, starts with two, large Walleye filets totaling more than 10 oz, that are hand battered with local Upper Hand Brewery UPA.  The crispy, golden crust is a compliment to the tender fish inside with a perfect balance natural walleye flavor and a citrusy UPA infused breading. Served with a side of our house-seasoned fries and sautèed asparagus.

Speaking of Upper Hand Brewery, it is located just 8 miles south of Freshwater Tavern. we carry 4 of their beers on tap. With their tag line, “Brewed and canned where it’s meant to be enjoyed”, we couldn’t think of a better partner for our Yooper Fish and Chips!
